… or, ZOMG, what have I DONE!
So, there has to be some rules to this, and I know myself well enough that if the rules are not very clear, I will be continually trying to find ways to cheat. So, here they are.
I am allowed to listen to music from the 80s, which has been released no later than todays date less 30 years. The final arbiter of release dates shall be Wikipedia.
Thats it. No more. Simple. PAINFULLY simple.
Objections… Why Wikipedia? It's inaccurate. Well, because a man with one watch knows what time it is, a man with two knows nothing. The man with one watch may be wrong, but at least he is sure.
So, that means no Eat to the Beat by Blondie (I dunno if I can live without that album, but lets see how it goes), No Tubular Bells, no early Zeppelin, no Genesis before Duke. No Suzanne Vega for another 6 years. (if I make it that far!)
But, with such a short unambiguous rule, I felt I have a hope of sticking to it.
I did consider whether accuracy to a month was ok, whether on February 1st I can start listening to Face Value (released on the 9th. But, if I do that, I am denying myself the wonder of waking up on the 9th, and being able to listen to it ON IT'S DAY OF RELEASE! So, day by day it is.
I also want to try to use this as a means of spurring myself to blog more often. Observations about the days music, anticipation of an upcoming release, using it for writing practice.
