Well, I can say (with little shame) I am a bit of a mac fanboi.
Last friday I left work, rushed across manchester and queued with my odd and interesting looking people to possibly, maybe get my grubby paws on a brand spandy new iPad2.
I succeeded, and have been a happy tech geek ever since. However, all is not 100% chocolate coated bliss. There are some small niggles I have after using it for a weekend.
It's still too heavy. 1.3lb is a remarkable achievement, but it still feels heavy when holding it up with one hand for any length of time. This I can live with, and it is not really a complaint, just an observation. Just as any time a computer makes you wait more than the time it takes to click your fingers twice is too long, irrespective of what it is actually doing.
Don't get me wrong, I love the smart cover, I think it is a lovely bit of engineering. The 'microfibre' lining is lovely, and yes it does polish the screen. BUT, it does not to a good job on the areas of the screen directly over one of the 'seams' in the cover. So, after a particularly heavy session on Battleheart and a subsequent trip in my backpack, the screen looks like it has three streaks down it.
The picture taking button on the camera app. Thats just in the wrong place. In fact, any single place would probably be wrong. Why are there not two little 'thumb handles' on either side of the button, that would allow me to drag the picture taking button to any posiiton on the screen, THAT would be nice.
The last, well, this is not a niggle. Its not a gripe. Its a sigh. For a lost opportunity, a missed trick, that if it had been included would have made me smile. Heck it would have made me chortle, gaffaw, it even might have made me dance a little jig. I would have LOVED to see, when I lift the right most flap of the smart cover, and the ipad awakes from its oh so temporary slumber, the TIME, at top right on the screen instead of having to peal the entire smartcover back. THAT would have been LOVELY.
