It Is a Wonderful Day...

... out there. Sunny, clear, not too humid.
I am stuck in here, in my office, coding for my current client.
Loving it.
I am a lucky lucky man, sad, ooh so sad, but LUCKY.

Well, its been a long time since I posted anything here.
20 days by the log.
And a good friend pointed this out to me after I sent him a link to an article.
Should’a blogged it.
Well, Ok…
So I will.
And I make a new pledge, I will attempt to move this blog forwards a little.
Posting more regularly in the future.
Hehe, how often have you heard THAT one?

Well, it appears to be working on the Apache / FCGI / Rails stack.
It is not, however, as quick as the old webbrick solution was.
I fear I may have to tune the number of instances of mysql, apache and fcgi to optimise throughput.

This morning I tried to resolve the problems I encountered with Apache2/FCGI/Rails.
I did not succeed.
The reason I want to do this is to support multiple rails apps using Apache VirtualHost directives.
Any help from ANYONE would be very gratefully received.
The problem appears to be (or at least the first problem) that ruby cannot load the fcgi module.
Trying to “gem install fcgi” reports that it cannot find “mkmf”.
I already have automake and autoconf installed. (apt-get tells me so!)
HELP!

Ok. I sat down this evening with the aim of amending the theme to allow it to work equally well in the accursed IE as well as Firefox, Mozilla, Konq. etc.
I struggled for an hour, and finally decided to go back to basics. I mocked up a set of DIV s that would do what I wanted on Firefox and IE.
I used those as the basis for the main layout.
Found lots of snags and bashed them flat.
Until but one snag remained (The search bar is offset to the right in IE, AND NO OTHER!)
After trying a number of things, including a ‘orrible hack proposed by some fiendishly clever person out on the ‘net.
Long story short, I was not able to completely fix it.
Its close, but no cigar.
It really ruins the look when using IE, but all I can suggest is, if it bugs you, USE A BETTER BROWSER.
And with that, I bid you good night.

Took the time to boot my other box into Win2k today and had a look at the blog pages with Firefox and IE.
Firefox works fine.
IE makes a dogs breakfast of the page.
So, in order to work with the 200lb gorilla I have to revamp my pages for their broken code. (Craig, you call ME SCIT!)

Well, the new theme is done.
I think it looks good. But only time (and you lot) will tell.
Please let me know if there are any strange looking layout problems in other browsers.
I have checked it out in Konq. and Mozilla.
When I next boot my second box into Windows, I’ll check Mozilla and IE.
Cheers.

I have added a link to the links section to the right.
Its the My Music Link.
This link takes you to my last.fm page. This will show you what music I have been listening to recently.

As was pointed out by Jan, nothing but the frontpage was available.
Some problem with Apache.
I have stepped back from Apache and am currently using Web-brick. Seems to have solved the problem for now.
Must look into the problem with Apache, thats not nice.

Well, here it is. I have finally started a new blog. This has been prompted by the “Typo” blog tool.
In this blog I will be talking about Coding, Fatherhood, Food, anything I can think about that I have some opinion about.
